About Setouchi Whisper
Layering music and stories onto the landscapes of the Setouchi region.
Setouchi Whisper is a creative project set in the Kanonji and Mitoyo areas of Kagawa Prefecture,
where music, stories, images, and videos are created in collaboration with AI.
What is Setouchi Whisper?
Setouchi Whisper is a creative project that produces music and short stories inspired by the landscapes of the Setouchi region, the towns of Kanonji and Mitoyo in Kagawa Prefecture, and the nuances of everyday life—including the awkwardness of love.
Some works stand alone as music, while others are intertwined with the stories.
Individual lyrics, scenes, and landscapes gradually come to overlap with the lives and moments of the characters.
About the Stage
The story is primarily set in the cities of Kanonji and Mitoyo in Kagawa Prefecture.
Locations include Ariake Beach, Chichibugahama Beach, Kotohiki Hachimangu Shrine, Takaya Shrine, Awai Shrine, Awashima Island, and Unpenji Temple.
It captures the Seto Inland Sea, sunsets, summer festivals, shrine grounds on rainy days, and the daily lives of local workers.
Beyond the glamour of tourist attractions, the work cherishes the ordinary moments of the people living there and the warmth found in their casual conversations.
On Music and Storytelling
In Setouchi Whisper, music and storytelling are gently intertwined.
There are the high school students—Kasumi, Minato, and Himari.
There is Sumika, who works in Tokyo, and Kohei, who has returned to Kanonji.
Across the changing seasons and various locations, each character gradually comes to terms with their own feelings.
From music to story.
From story to music.
We create the work by moving back and forth between the music and the text, ensuring an enjoyable experience regardless of where you begin.
On Creating with AI
Setouchi Whisper uses AI to create music, stories, images, and videos.
However, rather than viewing AI merely as a tool for automated production, I see it as a partner—someone to brainstorm, experiment, and bring ideas to life with.
Putting imagined scenes into words.
Exploring the direction of lyrics.
Testing the mood of a track.
Refining the nuances and spaces within a story.
Expanding the world-building through visuals.
Through this process of trial and error, I am gradually shaping creations that feel right to me.
